Wordpress excerpt on page

I have a wordpress page I have tried changing the_content code to excerpt in templates file but it doesn't work.

On the project page I have following code:

[vc_row][vc_column width="1/1"][vc_posts_grid loop="size:10|order_by:date" grid_columns_count="3" grid_layout="title,image,text" grid_link_target="_self" grid_layout_mode="fitRows" grid_thumb_size="440x200" filter="yes"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

The code above displays all the project, images and content, but it shows the full content instead of excerpt. I have checked all the settings even wordpress is set to show "summary".

Tried few category plugins, but can't really acheieve it. Basically I want to show specific category post in certain pages.

Any thoughts of how can I use the above shortcodes to display the excerpt?
